I styled the Kimesca modest fashion campaign shoot in an unusual way. This is because my modest wear brand is a fusion of my husband’s culture and my career in European fashion design. I really wanted to present modest fashion in an editorial, more high-fashion lens and with something like a campaign, you can go a bit more expressive and playful.
This wasn’t an avant garde direction of shoot, after all, it still needs to be accepted and understood by the mass to tick the commercial value box, but I haven’t seen modest fashion be styled this way before. I wanted to incorporate the trend of lace tights. My own style is also dark femininity so it’s a selfish nod to my taste.
I believe modesty and the idea of being captivating can exist in the same sentence. Women are inherently striking, magnetic and ethereal, but the societal issue arises when allure is constantly confused with being sexual.
Modest fashion, to me, is not about covering in order to hide, nor is it about stripping away femininity or expression. It is about approaching fashion with intention and exploring interesting styling, thoughtful textures, and carefully chosen accessories while still honouring personal boundaries.
When I design modest dresses, I think about movement and subtle detail, like pairing the Kimesca dress with black lace tights so that as you walk, sit, or move, an unexpected element is revealed without ever compromising modesty.
Everyone's definition of modesty is personal, and this is Kimesca’s.
